Russell Nelson Profile
Hello in this 2018-2019 school year I have been blessed to join the Ankeney family for my 14th year of teaching. I have gained great experience while teaching in various teaching environments. I began my teaching career teaching 6th grade science in the district in which I went to school as a student in central NY (Waterloo Central School District). After 5 great years and receiving both tenure and my professional license in NY my wife and I decided we wanted to move south with our firstborn child. I have family in upstate SC so we decided to move to SC, but chose to live near the beach in Charleston instead. I taught for 2 years at a brand new charter school for Gifted and Talented students (Palmetto Scholars Academy) teaching 6th and 8th grade science. My wife and I greatly loved where we were living and the school I was teaching at but as our 2nd child was born and no family from NY or Ohio moved down we decided to move back north to live near family. I accepted a teaching job at the Dayton Regional STEM School. The last 6 years have been a great experience in challenging my to deepen their personal knowledge through inquiry based learning and project based learning. As I begin this new Project Lead the Way position I am excited to help expose our 7th and 8th graders to computer science, manufacturing and aerospace fields that they might want to pursue after high school. The Green County Career Center has polled local businesses and industry and identified the greatest needs are in the fields of: Engineering, Manufacturing, Computer Science and Aerospace. The opportunity to expose our students to these fields while they are in middle school is very exciting!
