Items for Board Discussion - Reductions Presentation
Superintendent Paul Otten presents recommended reductions to the Board of Education. The recommendations come as a result of the failed November levy initiative, which creates a loss of revenue for fiscal year 2019, and are intended to alleviate budget deficits projected in the district's Five-Year Forecast. Areas of proposed reduction and modification include building and department budgets, school day schedules, personnel, salary and benefits, hiring practices, athletics and student activities, and instructional programs.
Included in the presentation are proposals to increase transportation department efficiency by changing school day schedules as follows:
Student Day
- Middle Schools (7:30 am - 2:15 pm)
- BHS, Ferguson Hall, Parkwood, Shaw (8:15 am - 3:00 pm)
- Fairbrook, Main, Trebein, Valley (9:00 am - 3:45 pm)
- Preschool AM (8:20 am - 11:00 am)
- Preschool PM (12:00 pm - 2:40 pm)
Professional Staff Member Work Day
- Middle School (7:15 am - 2:45 pm)
- BHS, Ferguson Hall (7:45 am - 3:15 pm)
- Parkwood, Shaw (8:00 am - 3:30 pm)
- Fairbrook, Main, Trebein, Valley (8:30 am - 4:00 pm)
- Preschool (7:45 am - 3:15 pm)
All schools will have a 6 hour and 45 minute student day. These schedule changes were approved by the Board of Education and will take effect starting with the 2019 - 2020 school year.
Details were provided for possible reductions and modifications if the May, 2019, emergency operating levy should fail. Areas covered were transportation, athletics and student activities, and instructional programs.
