End-of-Course Tests
Q: My child will graduate in 2018 or later. Which tests will my child be required to complete for graduation?
A: Students graduating in 2018 or later have new graduation requirements and are required to take the following tests:
- English/Language Arts I
- English/Language Arts II
- Algebra I
- Biology
- Geometry
- Physical Science (only the class of 2018 may use the biology or physical science results)
- American History
- American Government
Q: I would like to learn more about Ohio's requirements for the class of 2018 and beyond. Where can I obtain additional information?
A: Although the information below provides a brief overview of the new graduation point system, more in-depth information can be found by visiting the Ohio Department of Education website here.
End-of-course tests and graduation points:
- For each of the seven end-of-course state tests, a student earns one to five graduation points.
- Students have the potential to earn a total of 35 points.
- To meet this graduation option, a student must earn a minimum number of 18 points from all tests.
Of those required 18 points:
- A minimum of 4 points must be earned on the math end-of course tests. Students combine the points earned on the Algebra I and Geometry tests to meet this requirement.
- A minimum of 4 points must be earned on the ELA end-of-course tests. Students combine the points earned on the English I and English II tests to meet this requirement.
- A minimum of 6 points must be earned on the science and social studies end-of-course tests. Students combine the points earned on the science test (Biology or physical science for the class of 2018), American History and American Government.
Q: Is there additional information to help our family understand the family reports we will be receiving?
A: The Ohio Department of Education has created a document titled Ohio’s State Tests: District FAQs to provide a crosswalk between AIR's results and Ohio's expectations.
Q: My student received a score of "proficient" on the science or social studies test? How many points did she receive towards graduation?
A: The science or social studies family reports provide a score and overall designation for the student's performance. The students results determine the number of points they earned towards their total graduation points.
