ONE DISTRICT, ONE MISSION, ONE CREEK

School Safety

School Safety

At Beavercreek City Schools, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority. Guided by our mission, "Together, we provide a safe, supportive learning environment to engage all students with innovative experiences to reach their greatest potential," we are committed to fostering secure, welcoming, and supportive learning environments in every school.

To support this commitment, Beavercreek City Schools maintains comprehensive district and building-level safety plans designed to prepare for and respond to a variety of situations. These plans are submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and regularly reviewed for compliance by Ohio Homeland Security. Our building safety plans are routinely evaluated, updated, and rated compliant to ensure we are meeting state requirements and implementing best practices in school safety.

Through ongoing training, collaboration with local first responders, and continuous review of our safety procedures, we strive to provide an environment where students can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence.

  • If an emergency occurs during the school year, Beavercreek City Schools will share important updates with families as quickly and appropriately as possible. Please rely on official district communications as your primary source of information.

Clear and accurate communication is especially important during a crisis. Sharing misinformation or speculation can create confusion and may pose safety risks for students, staff, and emergency responders. In every situation, student safety remains our highest priority.

Once the situation has been properly addressed, the district will provide appropriate updates to families through ParentSquare, our direct messaging system.

  • Each Beavercreek City Schools building maintains a comprehensive safety plan that outlines procedures for responding to a variety of emergency situations. To help ensure the safety of students and staff, our schools use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which provides five clear response actions:

    • Hold
    • Secure
    • Lockdown
    • Evacuate
    • Shelter

Families can learn more about these emergency response actions by reviewing the Emergency Classroom Procedures Quick Guide or watching the short video, 5 Minutes, 5 Actions.

  • Our district works closely with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency management agencies, and first responders to prepare for and respond to a wide range of potential emergencies. While we hope these situations never occur, having comprehensive plans in place helps us respond quickly and effectively when needed.

Our safety plans address a variety of potential hazards, including:

    • Active Shooter/Active Aggressor
    • Bomb Threat
    • Bus Accident
    • Chemical Accident
    • Civil Disturbance
    • Earthquake
    • Explosion
    • Fire
    • Gas Leak or Utility Outage
    • Hostage Situation
    • Medical Emergency
    • Severe Storms and Tornadoes
    • Terrorism Threats
    • Unidentified Substances or Illicit Drugs
    • Water Outage or Restrictions
    • Winter Weather and Ice Storms
    • Lost or Missing Student
    • Power Outage
    • Injury or Health Emergency

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors remains our highest priority. We continually review and update our procedures to ensure we are prepared to respond effectively to emergencies while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

  • While schools must be prepared for a variety of emergency situations, Beavercreek City Schools recognizes the importance of proactively addressing concerns related to school violence. Our approach focuses on prevention, early intervention, preparedness, and collaboration to help maintain safe and supportive learning environments for all students and staff.

Through ongoing training, strong partnerships with local law enforcement and mental health professionals, and established safety protocols, we continuously work to identify potential concerns, assess risks, and respond appropriately when needed.

    Safety Drills

Regular safety drills are conducted throughout the school year to help students and staff become familiar with emergency procedures and response protocols. Additional information can be found in the Training section below.

    Threat Assessment Teams

Ohio House Bill 123 requires school districts serving grades 6–12 to establish multidisciplinary threat assessment teams. Beavercreek City Schools has expanded this practice to include all school buildings, including elementary schools.

These teams may include administrators, school counselors, mental health professionals, school resource officers, and other trained personnel. When a concern is reported, the team gathers information, assesses potential risks, and develops appropriate intervention and support plans to help ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

    ALICE Protocol

In the event of an active aggressor situation, Beavercreek City Schools utilizes the ALICE response framework. ALICE is designed to provide age-appropriate, options-based strategies that can help individuals make informed decisions during a critical incident.

    ALICE stands for:

    • Alert – Recognize and communicate the threat.
    • Lockdown – Secure classrooms or spaces when appropriate.
    • Inform – Share real-time information as the situation evolves.
    • Counter – Use age-appropriate distraction techniques as a last resort to create opportunities for safety.
    • Evacuate – Leave the area when it is safe to do so.

Our staff receive ongoing training in ALICE protocols, and students participate in age-appropriate safety education to ensure they understand how to respond during an emergency.

  • Beavercreek City Schools is committed to maintaining a culture of safety through ongoing training, preparedness, and collaboration with local emergency responders. Ohio law requires schools to conduct a variety of safety drills and training activities throughout the school year to help ensure that students and staff are prepared to respond appropriately during an emergency.

Our annual training and preparedness program includes:

    • 3 Safety Drills focused on responding to potential threats of violence
    • 9 Emergency Evacuation Drills to practice safe and orderly building evacuations
    • 1 Theoretical Safety Drill/Annual Staff Training to review emergency procedures and response protocols
    • 2 Tornado Drills to prepare for severe weather emergencies

All safety drills and emergency preparedness activities are planned and coordinated in partnership with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management personnel. These collaborative efforts help ensure our procedures align with best practices and provide students and staff with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond safely during an emergency.

Through regular training, practice, and continuous review of our safety procedures, we remain committed to providing a secure learning environment where students can learn, grow, and succeed.
