Check out this week's "Creek Fact Friday!" Can you name these three teachers and their significance to the district? ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ–ค ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ–ค ๐Ÿงก Spoiler Alert! The image features Edward Zink, Frank Zink, and Otto Zink! Edward's legacy is honored through the naming of the Beavercreek High School Fieldhouse, Frank's in the naming of the football stadium, and Otto's name graces the gym at Ferguson Hall. The contributions of Ed, Frank, and Otto have left an indelible mark on our district. Yet, it's important to recognize that the entire Zink family has also made significant contributions. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค For example, the tree outside the athletic main office is in memory of the late Anton Zink. Also, Antonโ€™s wife, Becky, has kept the scorebook for our basketball teams for 38 seasons now! Do you have a favorite Zink memory? Let us know in the comments!

๐ŸŒŸ Staff Spotlight: Lori Howell! ๐ŸŒŸ Lori has been with Beavercreek City Schools for 16 years and works as a bus driver and BHS lunch monitor. She is also "Rooted" in the BCS community as a Beavercreek High School Class of 1986 Alum! During her career at BCS, she credits Sue Rex, her bus trainer with Kettering City Schools, as being the most influential person in her career. Lori started her driving career at Kettering almost 30 years ago. Her favorite memories include meeting so many wonderful coworkers and making friends with many of them. While not driving a bus or working in the cafeteria, Lori loves to spend time with her family, taking trips to the beach, gardening, and attending car shows with her husband. "I am proud to be able to live and work in such a wonderful community with so many great people. I'm lucky to call Beavercreek home, " Lori said. We are lucky to have her in our Creek family! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ“ฑ Attention, BCS families and community members! ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ“ฑ We're thrilled to announce our participation in Greene County Public Health Department's "Global Day of Unplugging" tomorrow, Friday, March 1st! As part of this initiative, Beavercreek City Schools will be taking a break from social media for the day. This means you won't see our usual posts. But don't worry, our weekly staff highlight and our new Creek Fact Friday post will be shared on Saturday instead. We appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize disconnecting to reconnect with what truly matters. Let's embrace this opportunity to engage in offline activities and recharge our minds and spirits. We look forward to connecting with you again soon! ๐ŸŒŸ#DisconnectToConnect #GlobalDayOfUnplugging #BCSUnplugged ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค

๐ŸŒŸ Staff Spotlight: Meet Lula Kersteiner! ๐ŸŒŸ If you haven't met Lu yet, you're truly missing out! Lula Kersteiner shines as the administrative assistant at Parkwood Elementary, and we're thrilled to feature her in our Staff Spotlight this week. With nearly 25 years of dedication to our district, Lu's journey has been shaped by the wisdom and kindness of influential mentors like Sue Bamford and Vicki Keivel, who have inspired and guided her along the way. When asked about her favorite BCS memory, she said, " After all this time, there are so many. But being 'a security blanket' for a young girl tops her list. "The girl was anxious about going to class, so she would stop in every day to hug her. I would tell her she was going to have a great day! She would smile and go to class." We also asked her what it means to be a member of the Creek family, and she said, "The saying that it takes a village is so very true today. We may not know what is going on in a child's life, but teachers, counselors, office staff, and administrators all working together to guide our children to be good citizens, friends, and classmates is so important. I am very thankful to be part of the BCS and Parkwood community. I hope I have helped make a difference in some small way." Beyond her dedicated work, Lu enjoys exploring the great outdoors with her husband and their beloved dog, Molly. Whether it's soaking in the beauty of Lake Erie or adventuring through Ohio and Kentucky State Park lodges, Lu's passion for travel and adventure keeps the roads hot, as her husband fondly remarks. Thank you, Lu, for your unwavering commitment and heartfelt contributions to our school community. You truly embody the spirit of excellence and compassion that defines Parkwood Elementary! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿงก

We highlight Jenn Courter, a 5th-grade ELA and social studies teacher at Fairbrook Elementary, for our weekly staff spotlight. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค Jenn has been with the district for seven years and says her career has been most influenced by those she has had the opportunity to co-teach with. "They have pushed me to find new ways to challenge our students and brought joy to my day-to-day life. I could not do my job without them." Her favorite thing about working at BCS is seeing her students, old and new, achieve wonderful things as they grow and move through the Beavercreek school system. Jenn says, "The community at Fairbrook has inspired me to be more involved with Beavercreek in and outside of the school. Not only have I built a solid foundation in Beavercreek, but my family has as well. Finally, Jenn enjoys reading and hiking in nature when not in a classroom. #beavercreeksbest #staffspotlight

Itโ€™s Staff Spotlight time again! This week, we highlight Melinda Dyamod, a paraprofessional at Main Elementary. Melinda has been with the district for ten years and is so grateful to be a member of the Creek family. She loves making memories at BCS and has so many that she couldnโ€™t choose just one to highlight as her favorite. When it comes to her career, she says Ashley Kitchen has been the most influential person. When not busy at work, Melinda enjoys being with her family, enjoying the outdoors, and trying new foods from different cultures. We are very lucky to have Melinda as a part of our district! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค #BCSstaffspotlight

Preschool loves mittens! Not only are they fun for art projects, but they help encourage independence because they are easier for little ones to put on themselves with no help. They also keep hands warmer with fingers being together.

If you don't already know him, meet Mr. Seilhamer! He is this week's Staff Spotlight. Mr. Seilhamer is a 7th and 8th-grade science teacher at Ankeney Middle School and the head girls' basketball coach. He has spent 22 years in the district already. When asked who has been the most influential person in his career, he said, "My wife and kids because I never want to let them down." About his students, he hopes they can learn from him how to be kind and empathic because you never know what someone else might be going through. If there is one thing he wishes more people knew about BCS, it is how much our staff goes above and beyond to provide a great learning experience for all our students.

Today, we highlight Brian Shively, our transportation administrative assistant for our staff spotlight. Brian has worked for BCS for five years, and within that time, he credits Transportation Supervisor Lindy Shumaker as the person who has been most influential in his career. He hopes students can learn two things from him: patience and kindness. Also, if there is one thing Brian hopes more people know about our district, it would be the array of opportunities our students have here, ranging from music, athletics, academic teams, and social clubs to numerous other activities. We are incredibly grateful to have Brian as a member of the Creek family!
