End-of-Course Tests

The Ohio Department of Education has created an overview of Ohio's Learning Standards and State Tests which can be found below.  Beavercreek City Schools created this page to provide families and students access to relevant information regarding graduation requirements and state tests.

Q: My child will graduate in 2018 or later.  Which tests will my child be required to complete for graduation?

A: Students graduating in 2018 or later have new graduation requirements and are required to take the following tests:

  • English/Language Arts I

  • English/Language Arts II

  • Algebra I

  • Biology

  • Geometry

  • Physical Science (only the class of 2018 may use the biology or physical science results)

  • American History

  • American Government

Q:  I would like to learn more about Ohio's requirements for the class of 2018 and beyond.  Where can I obtain additional information?

A:  Although the information below provides a brief overview of the new graduation point system, more in-depth information can be found by visiting the Ohio Department of Education website here.

End-of-course tests and graduation points:

  • For each of the seven end-of-course state tests, a student earns one to five graduation points.

  • Students have the potential to earn a total of 35 points.

  • To meet this graduation option, a student must earn a minimum number of 18 points from all tests.

Of those required 18 points:

  • A minimum of 4 points must be earned on the math end-of course tests.  Students combine the points earned on the Algebra I and Geometry tests to meet this requirement.

  • A minimum of 4 points must be earned on the ELA end-of-course tests.  Students combine the points earned on the English I and English II tests to meet this requirement.

  • A minimum of 6 points must be earned on the science and social studies end-of-course tests. Students combine the points earned on the science test (Biology or physical science for the class of 2018), American History and American Government.

Q:  Is there additional information to help our family understand the family reports we will be receiving?

A:   The Ohio Department of Education has created a document titled Ohio’s State Tests: District FAQs to provide a crosswalk between AIR's results and Ohio's expectations.

Q:  My student received a score of "proficient" on the science or social studies test?  How many points did she receive towards graduation?

A:  The science or social studies family reports provide a score and overall designation for the student's performance.  The students results determine the number of points they earned towards their total graduation points.

Q:  My child didn't do as well as expected.  Can he retake the test?

A: Safe Harbor permits students to retake the tests and achieve a higher score.  Interested students will be required to participate in remediation for each subject.  Remediation must be completed prior to students attempting each retake.
