Football Coach

Beavercreek City Schools (BCS) is excited to announce the recommendation to hire accomplished football coach Trace Smitherman to lead the Beavercreek High School (BHS) football program.

Smitherman is not unfamiliar with the district and the BHS football program, as he served as an assistant coach for five previous seasons. Additionally, with an impressive 14-year coaching career, Coach Smitherman brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to our football program. He has established himself as a coaching force to be reckoned with, having served as head coach at Stebbins, Xenia, and Tri-County North over the course of his distinguished career. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the game make him an invaluable addition to the Creek football family.

Coach Smitherman has been recognized by the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) as Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019. His ability to inspire and lead his teams to success has also earned him the Southwest District Associated Press DII Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and 2018.

Coach Smitherman has also actively contributed to developing football talent, showcasing his coaching expertise as the head coach of the MVFCA All-Star Game North Team in 2015 and 2018. Additionally, he was an assistant coach in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game in 2016 and 2018, demonstrating his commitment to fostering sports excellence.

Not only does Coach Smitherman excel on the field with success, but he also excels off the field, receiving the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award in 2015 and 2018.

“We are very excited to announce Trace Smitherman as the next head football coach at Beavercreek High School. He has dedicated his coaching career to advancing and nurturing student-athletes’ talents in his football programs, bringing Beavercreek a wealth of knowledge, experience, and familiarity with opponents in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC).” Brad Pompos, BCS Athletic Director, said.

Superintendent Paul Otten will recommend that the Board approve Coach Smitherman’s employment at the February Board of Education meeting.
